Pirates Win Amsterdam Plate

Pirates took the 2008 Amsterdam 7s Plate title, dispatching Brazil 31-0 in a thrilling display of brutal, physical and effective rugby 7s.

Having had a poor first day in terms of both performance and results, losing narrowly to Moody Cows and by some distance to Canada and Wooden Spoon, Pirates had managed to put Dutch side Waterland to the sword 47-0, securing their participation on the Sunday.

Better weather and better performances saw Pirates storm past Norway (42-0) and Czech Republic (26-7) before meeting Brazil in the final. Ashley Rowlands, Phoebe Boone, X X and X X put Pirates clear and into a Heineken wonderland, capping what had been a fantastic first-ever internataional tournament.

Bournemouth Sevens Info

The draw has been made, the fixtures set and the teams await. In their final scheduled tournament of the season, Pirates go to Bournemouth buoyed by their unexpected Amsterdam win.

Pirates' main rivals at Bournemouth will be the elusive Wooden Spoon and this year's nemesis, Pink Ba Bas, who have both been drawn in the same pool. Pirates will take on REME, Teddington and local side Oakmedians on day one in the group stages and would expect to do well on the second day, in the knockout stages of the competition.

Players are asked to meet at Bournemouth at 9am ready for a provisional 10am start to the tournament on both Saturday and Sunday.
